OPPORTUNITIES
Ways to Volunteer
It takes a community to rescue, care for, and rehome every dog that comes through GRIN. Whether you have a few hours a month or want to be more involved, there’s a place for you here.
Application team
Help review adoption applications by conducting phone interviews and checking veterinary references. This role plays a key part in ensuring every dog is placed in the right home.
Home visits
Visit prospective adopters’ homes to help ensure a safe and appropriate environment. You’ll ask questions, observe the space, and help guide thoughtful placements.
Transport
If you enjoy driving, this role is for you. Help transport dogs to foster homes, vet appointments, or training — each trip helping a dog move one step closer to their new life.
Foster support
Fosters are essential — and volunteers help support them. Whether assisting with coordination or stepping in where needed, you help keep the system running smoothly.
Events & outreach
Represent GRIN at local events, pet stores, and community gatherings. Help spread awareness, share our mission, and connect with potential adopters and supporters.
Fundraising & special events
From our Golden Gala to community fundraisers, these events help fund everything we do. Volunteers help plan, organize, and bring these events to life.
Membership & admin support
Assist with membership coordination, communications, and administrative tasks that keep GRIN organized and connected.
Creative & professional skills
Have a special skill? We’d love your help. From photography and graphic design to writing, tech support, and social media — your talents can make a real impact.
MEMBERSHIP
One simple step to get started
Because of insurance and liability requirements, all volunteers must be GRIN members. Membership is simple to set up and helps ensure you’re covered and connected as part of the organization.
It’s also a meaningful way to support the work we do — beyond the time you give.

Questions about our organization
How much time do I need to commit?
It depends on the role. Some opportunities are flexible and occasional, while others may be more consistent. We’ll work with your availability to find the right fit.
Do I have to be a member to volunteer?
Yes. Membership is required for insurance and liability purposes. It’s a simple step that allows you to safely participate in volunteer activities.
Can I volunteer if I can’t foster?
Absolutely. There are many ways to help beyond fostering, including events, transport, admin support, and more. Every role is important to our success.
What does a home visit involve?
You’ll visit a potential adopter’s home to observe the environment and ask a few questions. It helps ensure each dog is placed in a safe and appropriate setting.
Can I choose how I want to volunteer?
Yes. We encourage you to share your interests, and we’ll help match you with opportunities that fit your preferences and schedule.
What if I only have a few hours to give?
That’s perfectly fine. Even small contributions of time can make a meaningful impact. Every bit of help adds up.
Will I be working directly with dogs?
Some roles involve hands-on work with dogs, while others support behind the scenes. Both are equally important to the rescue process.
Can I volunteer at events?
Yes. We regularly need help at community events, fundraisers, and awareness efforts. It’s a great way to get involved and meet others in the GRIN community.
Do I need experience to volunteer?
No prior experience is required for most roles. We’ll help guide you and connect you with opportunities that match your comfort level and skills. A willingness to help goes a long way.
Why are volunteers so important to GRIN?
Because everything we do depends on them. As a volunteer-run organization, GRIN relies on people giving their time, energy, and care to make every rescue possible.
